Hi everyone, my present, I am a former grattavetro behind a 150/200/280 mm, all F6, built at a young age. Even today, using the latest built, that thanks to the collaboration Giuliot, I installed a few years ago on his project in strock dob and I further developed continuously since then. Despite my mirror is aluminized by now 25 years ( without protection!) efficiently it plays its role well and giving me sharp visual contrast of the moon and planets also 640 magnifications. The articles published here have awakened my old passion for building optical newton. I state that the single control device that was learned to use the ronchi autocostruito test with a simple copper wire formed by an electric motor decommissioned, but despite the carelessness of that time to control and precision I had the pleasure recently to compare my wooden dob with a Celestron C11 mounted on EQ5 with etc etc counterweights, eeeehh….. I say no more.
I greet all the willing and stubborn, even if foolhardy grattavetro.28 September 2016 at 14:08 #8543Hello and welcome Lelio ! your experience will certainly be interesting and useful for all of us who share this passion.
28 September 2016 at 14:26 #8545Hi Massimo, thanks for the trust. Recently I visited a grattavetro who made a dob of 1000 mm F5 and has built the hand mirror working as a normal calciosodico 25 mm hot preformed thickness of a steel mold to achieve the necessary curvature, but it took 7 years of work by hand to finish it….. I was amazed. Accurate construction and frame newton folded with three mirrors, obstruction 38%, I could not comment because the monster (In the true sense of the word)It was stored in a garage, but input for the future construction!
28 September 2016 at 14:58 #8546Wow ! a mirror from 1 meter your 25 mm thick, I wonder what he had to invent to sustain without distortion !
But I did not understand, the glass was melted on a curved mold on both sides ? therefore a “meniscus” oppure i 25 mm is the thickness at the center ?However I have not read these things, my grattavetrite now terminally ill with my mental instability It could take to unhealthy ideas…
28 September 2016 at 15:26 #8549Hi Lelio :Yahoo: :Yahoo: :Yahoo: What a pleasure to find you! Welcome in this virtual hospital specialist of “suffering from grattavetrite” that working as a team treating ailments calciumSODIum there or bicappaseptic and borosilicosi with homeopathic cures once suggested by one of us, and once suggested by another, but getting us.
28 September 2016 at 16:03 #8550haha, that's why everyone wants a “Primary”
28 September 2016 at 17:49 #8552The unhealthy habit to scratch the glass in addition to bringing physical ailments also involves ( the long run) the grattalzaimer that is destructive!
Coming very serious, the aforementioned astrofilo has done work by a specialized company a steel disc with the desired surface curve, There has supported the glass from 1 metro 25 mm thick and then the whole has slipped in an oven at over 600 ° C until the glass is set on steel keeping the thickness at each point, cooling and annealing and machining with a tool of sucessiva 1300 mm in diameter aluminum generated by the same cutter to cnc. The processing is hand been made completely in two people on a suitable table, without any mechanism.
Glass pretty paltry price, the rest… bèh.

Euro’ soon need your skills to the control test since I have not yet figured out a pipe about managing foucault test, though I have read all the documents you produced!28 September 2016 at 19:33 #8557Saint Barthelemy was present

29 September 2016 at 9:26 #8559I would do all warmest congratulations for this virtual space that allows all those who juggle or try to do it in this “Art” that sometimes borders on genius of the so-called coup c..lo, to find valuable information and now almost lost competence. Some amateurs who I met in my life, grattavetro almost always bizarre complained about this lack of interest and inability to pass on to future generations at least part of these skills, in this space I found by all the attempt to establish a school (albeit virtual), to donate their knowledge, commitment and enthusiasm. Of course we are far from a real school as proposed to its members for years stellafane, Here we lack the emotional and the physical presence of a tutor, but you are in a very good point!
Thirty years ago I met the engineer Luigi Ferioli, Optical and astronomer who wrote a little book entitled Saronno “astronomical optical clipboard”, the time if I'm not mistaken he was president of the Astronomical Association of Saronno, and founder of a remarkable ability grattavetro workshop lamented the difficulty of involving young people, let alone today! Well then this space that attracts those who are really interested in is lovingly encouraged and supported by all of you.29 September 2016 at 11:54 #8560Thanks Lelio, you have exactly hit the crux of the problem, for an aspiring grattavetro, but also to find those references is hard glass as long scratch, a place where you can compare with others and without comparison there is no growth, in every field.
Our approach is therefore this, not a school because there are no teachers nor do students, but rather a method, a team effort and a meeting place for lovers, where knowledge and experiences are shared , made available to the group and anyone who wants to join it, to give itself its contribution, small or large, but that will add another brick to the common knowledge and the dissemination of this discipline, so that you can get out of everyone from the DIY undergrowth and take some’ light… we need it for our mirrors !
29 September 2016 at 13:36 #8561What you say is all true Lelio!
I envy slightly because you started long before me this commitment, ed (Now I know) because you knew Luigi Ferioli: The author of my first book “blu” optical technique, I bought (and that others followed) to learn, as I was haunted by having to make a mirror correction from me 14″F5 given in the works because apparently astigmatic, to an artisan beyond the Alps, that indicatami delivery in three months became untraceable not making (Luckily) the job.
Attitude and that forced me to go (after two years of confident expectation despite the yield from its impossible any communication) with my campers to park in her garden amid the forests of the Jura, to convince him to give me back money and the mirror did not work.Point in my (Unfortunately) pride from that situation, I did not bother me at all to learn and put the time it took to solve – OF ME – the problem “scratching”, which then led me to like it…Although I have not really looked for new “adventures” in addition to the realization of configurations Newtron.
29 September 2016 at 14:30 #8565Giulio, my adventure began 17 years because he fascinated by astronomy and unfortunately dirt poor, a great motive to get busy, but only later I learned
However, if you do not do research or photos the newton is excellent at both long (today) in the very short focal, and I think it has the features to meet every need dell'astrofilo visualist…. if I want a photo, the discharge from NASA who can do better than I29 September 2016 at 17:48 #8566Me too my idea is that the photographer NASA better, Also because it gives me free of the photos that makes.
